What is epitalon?

How often should epitalon be cycled, once or twice a year?

This site does not recommend a cycling schedule for epitalon, twice a year or otherwise. There is no clinical trial establishing an optimal interval for use. The once- or twice-yearly convention that circulates in longevity communities is a self-directed practice passed around informally, not a finding from the published research record [1]. Stating that convention exists is different from endorsing it, and this desk does the former, not the latter.

What does the MOTS-c peptide do?

MOTS-c is a 16-amino-acid peptide encoded inside the mitochondrial genome. Its best-characterized action is inhibiting part of the folate cycle, which activates AMPK, a cellular energy-sensing switch that improves glucose uptake and insulin sensitivity, primarily in skeletal muscle [11]. Under metabolic stress it also translocates to the cell nucleus to help regulate stress-response genes [10], and a 2024 study identified casein kinase 2 as a direct molecular binding target, with tissue-specific effects in muscle versus fat [6].

What are the negative side effects of MOTS-c?

There is no established human side-effect profile for MOTS-c, because there is no completed human clinical trial of it. The strongest human data point — a 94-person hemodialysis cohort — measured an association between circulating MOTS-c levels and mortality/cardiovascular risk, not the effects of administering the peptide [7]. Community-reported anecdotal side-effect data of the kind available for epitalon simply is not present in the research record for MOTS-c yet, and this site will not invent a list to fill that gap.

How often do you inject MOTS-c?
